Crude oil stockpiles fall by 1.9 million barrels

Crude inventories and gasoline supplies fell last week, the government said Thursday. Analysts expected oil supplies to shrink by 730,000 barrels for the week ended Sept. 3, according to a survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos. Gasoline inventories fell by 200,000 barrels, or 0.1 percent, to 225.2 million barrels. That was below analysts' expectations and 8.7 percent above year-ago levels.
British lawmaker demands Murdoch faces Parliament

British legislators authorized a sweeping inquiry Thursday into illicit snooping on politicians and celebrities by tabloids, as one lawmaker called for media tycoon Rupert Murdoch to testify over allegations one of his newspapers illegally hacked into cell phones. Lawmakers agreed that Parliament's Standards and Privileges committee would hold hearings into claims that illegal methods to gather personal information on high-profile figures have been used throughout the British media.
Hook joins Comcast as general auditor

Cable and internet provider Comcast Corp. said Thursday that Cynthia Hook has joined the company as senior vice president and general auditor. Hook has spent the last 12 years at Dell Inc., most recently as vice president of global auditing. In her new job, Hook will oversee all internal audit staff, risk management and the performance of financial, operational and systems audits. She will report to the audit committee of the Comcast board and to Michael Angelakis, the chief financial officer of Comcast.
Huge fire at Venezuelan fuel terminal in Bonaire

A huge fire caused by a lightning strike has halted operations at a Venezuelan fuel terminal on the Dutch island of Bonaire. Island Gov. Glenn Thode says crews have isolated the fire and should extinguish it by the end of Thursday. The fire is visible across the small island in the southern Caribbean that is best known as a destination for divers. Thode says there have been no injuries or damage to other parts of the island.
